Top Tuesday

Well, would you believe it? While I was out at yoga this morning, the ol’ man got himself up and out of the front door, walked up to the shops and then once round the block. I was impressed. He said he didn’t feel too bad either, so we were both pleased with that.

Once I was back from yoga, I got on with a bit of baking. I had lunch guests and so I thought I’d make a cake. Turned out alright, too. And so we were both pleased that, as well! John loves a bit of cake, but the poor man doesn’t have any until guests turn up on the doorstep.

We were looking forward to the day, because my friends, Anita, Sue and Linda were on their way. A first for many a year – it feels like anyway – and we were going to a concert. Linda had procured 4 tickets for the G4 concert at Coventry Cathedral, and wondered if we’d like to go along, before she offered them elsewhere. Well, that’s a nice idea, we said! So it was all arranged. Lunch at my house and then we’d set off for the evening.

We had thought about eating out, but thought it’s still a bit risky; then we thought about travelling on the train into Coventry, but with the government sending warning signals out, we thought ‘hmmmm, maybe not’ and so we drove in. And it all worked out beautifully.

We had a lovely time. John was on top form and had a few tales to tell that made the girls laugh over lunch, so I know he enjoyed himself. The girls were relaxed and ready to be entertained, so I know they enjoyed themselves. And I love entertaining, so I enjoyed myself.

Regrettably, I didn’t take a photo of everyone having fun – maybe there’ll be a next time when we can get everyone together and I can get the camera out then. Fingers crossed.

I wasn’t sure what to expect at the concert – given the current situation with COVID and people generally seeming to choose not to wear masks. But I needn’t have worried – we were on a row where there was plenty of space around us. Quite a lot of people were wearing masks, although quite a lot weren’t – until the MC reminded everyone that there was now a government mandate to wear masks at indoor events. Quite a few put their masks on then.

The concert itself was very nice. G4 sang very familiar songs and carols beautifully, backed up by a local junior theatre group for some of the numbers, so it just turned out right.

On the COVID front itself, 39,716 people tested positive for the virus today; 159 people died in the community; 718 people were admitted to hospital with it; and 50 people died in hospitals in the last 48 hours.

Take care everyone. God bless.

  1. Thankyou for your hospitality Annie- it’s been soooo long since any of us met ‘ in the flesh’.
Hopefully something else fortuitous will turn up and ALL can meet up before too long.
